The Wisconsin Interscholastic Theatre Festival (WITF), previously Wisconsin High School Theatre Festival, offers contests in one-act play, Thespy technical portfolio and performance events, Tech Challenge (formerly “Tech Olympics”), engaging workshops for students and educators, exhibit vendors, college/university representatives and auditions, and full-length production showcases.

Held since 1991, the WITF is a partnership between the Wisconsin Interscholastic Speech & Dramatic Arts Association (previously Wisconsin High School Forensic Association), the Alliance for Wisconsin Theatre Education, the Wisconsin Thespians (EdTA chapter), and the rotation of hosting institutions.

The AWTE hosts the Director’s Lounge for networking, and sponsors workshops in the professional development track for theatre directors/educators.

Among the 50 states + territories, Wisconsin’s WITF is a unique model that brings together at the same time and place a state activity association’s one-act play contest, an EdTA Thespian Festival, and engagement between the P-12 and higher education theatre community.
